There are nine school districts in Clark County, Washington. Green Mountain is the smallest at 120 students and Vancouver and Evergreen are the largest with 20,000. There are also 16 state-approved private schools in the county. In addition to these there are the residential Washington State Schools for the Deaf and Blind. Home schooling is also popular in the area.
Washington spends approximately 45 percent of its general fund on education with a total funding level of nearly 80 percent. This tends to even out the quality of education from school to school since each district is only dependant on local levies for a small portion of funding. This fact also has a positive impact on property taxes. Basic education staffing ratios are 21.7 to 1 student-to-teacher.
