History

Despite the name, there never was a "battle" in Battle Ground. It's a complicated tale, that started in 1855 when the soldiers of nearby Fort Vancouver were away fighting an uprising of the Yakima Indians, and nervous locals feared a rebellion from another tribe, the Klickitats, The Klickitats were rounded up and confined to the Vancouver barracks, but a few escaped (and were later convinced to come back!). The feared Klickitat uprising never did materialize, but the spirit of panic and fear lead to the expected battle spot to be dubbed "Battle Ground."

Parks and Recreation

One of the top recreational areas in Clark County is Battle Ground Lake State Park, with a lake view and picninc areas. Overall, Battle Ground is home to 18 city parks, as well as a regional skate and bike park, athletic fields and the Battle Ground Community Center. Of course, there's also a lot of green, open country and parklands (with no signs and borders) to explore, with their own trails and picnic areas to discover.
